Crop Protection for 2016

By the time the customers of Gateway FS Construction Services read this article, most of the harvest activities in Illinois will have come to an end.  In fact, a lot of our customers will have already applied fall herbicide and ammonia to their fields in preparation for 2016’s crops.  In reality, the truth is that now is the perfect time to begin to think about crop protection for next year.

Yields were better than expected this year and a lot was learned about crop protection in 2015, including the use of a nitrogen stabilizer that made nitrogen accessible for corn late in the growing season and the use of a fungicide to guard crops from late-season diseases.  Unfortunately, there were also some challenges due to the wet year such as fields missing an application due to the wet summer months.  These factors should be considered when looking ahead to 2016.  The teammates of Gateway FS Construction Services, the Crop Specialists at Gateway FS, would be happy to help you plan ahead.

Given the declining commodity markets around the world, there appears to be more confusion about crop protection plans for next year, not only in the United States, but internationally as well.  Most, if not all farmers, including those in the Gateway FS Construction Services’ service area, are looking to reduce expenses in any way possible, including changing their current herbicide programs to a program that may be more cost effective.

There are several current and new options to incorporate in a crop protection plan for 2016.  Now is a great time to reevaluate your current weed control practices and the Crop Specialists at Gateway FS are the perfect folks to assist you.  Let them help you increase your production and have a successful 2016.
