Over the past year, we have enjoyed the opportunity to introduce readers to some of the wonderful employees here at FS Construction Services. And we are excited to continue this employee profile series and highlight our Grain Systems expert, Nathan Koester.
Grain Systems Expert for 24 Years
Nathan was born in Evansville, Illinois and spent his early years attending a parochial school. By the time Nathan got to high school, in his words, “I did not do sports. I worked.” He began working in a feed store at age 15 and has been working, learning, and increasing in skill ever since. He credits the owner of that feed store with teaching him the importance of professionalism and a strong work ethic. He credits the next 10 years he spent in retail for helping him learn the importance of customer service. By the time he worked himself up to managing a local Ace Hardware, the store was unfortunately going out of business. At this point, Nathan met the Operations Manager of Gateway FS Construction at a barbecue and was asked to come interview. That was 24 years ago, and Nathan has been with FS Construction ever since.
Over the years, Nathan has increased the territory he covers and the staff that he works with. Having gone to school to learn electrical plus the training he received with FS Construction, Nathan became a grain systems expert, both in sales and service. Even while in sales, he always kept a ladder and a toolbox in his truck, ready to step in whenever needed. If he could get to a customer before the service techs to keep their operation online, then that’s what he was going to do. And that people-first mentality still extends to everything Nathan does today.
