This month, we are excited to continue our FS Construction Services Employee Profile series on Nathan Koester, our Grain Systems expert. If you ask Nathan what his approach to his job is, his answer will be simple, “Me and my guys get stuff done.” But in the interest of a longer article, we’ll expand on that a bit.
Service Oriented: Koester Employee Profile
Nathan still carries the lesson of his first job with him: it’s about the customer. His approach is always to be as service oriented as possible, which is why he keeps his phone with him at all times. He knows that at any given moment, he might be the only one with an answer to a customer’s question. Consequently, Nathan has not changed his phone number since he started at FS Construction Services 24 years ago, so his customers have it, know it, and use it. And he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Nathan works alongside Nathan Bleem and Jarret Herzog. While working on any project, they stay in constant communication with each other. In Nathan’s words, “They know I’m playing hooky if I don’t call almost every hour.” The ongoing communication, through calls, texts, and emails, keeps projects on track and details in order.
Nathan covers counties across southern and southwest central Illinois, even expanding into northern Kentucky and eastern Missouri. As time has gone on, Nathan’s territory has expanded alongside his reputation. So it makes sense that his business has grown to be very relational. Customers know Nathan and his work and he comes highly recommended.
As farms have consolidated and grown in scale, so has the average grain bin size. In 2002, it was 30 ft., but today it’s 48 ft. Nathan and his team will bring alongside extra help to keep things moving efficiently, but since he is not a fan of surprises, he always holds stringent expectations, from the beginning of a project through its final inspection.
