Project Profile: Adding Cost-Effective Grain Storage

Here at FS Construction Services, we have a front-row seat to modern-day agricultural technology and machinery. And truly, the equipment is often as impressive as it is massive.

It also means that it can be a significant financial investment.

Our team understands that cost is often a first consideration for many of our clients. We are constantly aware of the need to save money where possible. So, we are sure to set our clients up with something that will be worth their investment over the years.

At face value, this month’s cost-effective grain storage project profile shares a lot in common with other grain storage jobs we’ve done. But it does a good job of showing how even some of the little things add up towards both cost savings and efficiency over time.

Cost-Effective Grain Storage that Lasts

Nathan Koester and his team recently constructed a cost-effective grain storage solution that will stand the test of time, while still keeping the client’s budget in mind.

First, they started with a 30-foot-diameter, 7-ring tall grain storage bin with a capacity of 16,300 bushels. The bin was built on a taller foundation to keep it off the ground, providing some additional protection against pests and water.

They then installed a horizontal unload that provides easier access and maintenance. The exterior ladder they used provides a more cost-effective alternative to stairs, but the added cage still maintains a degree of safety. For aeration, our team installed an Axial fan, using a hanging kit to keep it secure and protect it from any future movement problems.

While none of these individual decisions were truly out of the box or earth-shattering life hacks, the sum of them together makes for a cost-effective grain storage solution that is likely to last a little bit longer and go a little bit further.

When those things can happen – and the client can still get the space and function they need – it’s just a win all around!
