One of the things we have enjoyed so much about our employee profiles over the past year has been the opportunity to see the many sides of the work we do at FS Construction Services, in the words of those who do it. The different backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets all form a unique puzzle that we could have never planned for but somehow fits together perfectly.
Grain bin foreman Jon Harbaugh is no exception, and his piece is just as invaluable as the rest of the team we are so fortunate to work with.
Highlighting FSCS Grain Bin Foreman
Jon got his degree from Belleville Area College, now Southwest Illinois College, in metallurgy and fabrication. Before joining the FS Construction crew in the year 2000, Jon was working as an ironworker, which quickly became a useful skill once he joined our building crew.
As Jon spent more time with us, his skills and responsibilities changed and grew. For a time, he put his fabrication knowledge to work, since most jobs require some fabrication, but he also hauled fuel, sprayed, and most recently has led as foreman of the grain bin crew. This range of experience and knowledge is particularly helpful in the agricultural industry. As Jon puts it, “It amazes me, I’ve been in the farming industry for 49 years. And no two farmers do it the same.”
This kind of variance requires flexible thinking and a wealth of knowledge, both of which Jon brings to the table. And whether he intended it this way or not, his personal life certainly keeps his skills sharp. He and his wife of 25 years, Amber, live on his family farm raising cattle and grain. They also have two daughters, Lindsay and Hailey. And if that wasn’t already enough time outdoors, when he has free time, he likes to spend it camping and fishing.
