As we have gone through our series of Employee Profiles here at FS Construction Services, one of the most consistently enlightening questions is when we ask an employee about the jobs and projects that stand out the most to them. We have enjoyed seeing the character of our employees reflected in their varied experiences and the clients that that they remember the most.
And to this point, Jon Harbaugh is no different. While Jon explains his job simply, “If grain touches it, we touch it!”, his respect for the farmer, especially those smaller, multigenerational farms, is plainly apparent when he speaks. The other quality that Jon possesses is his love for a good challenge. His appreciation that no one day is the same as another is clear – he believes having varied experiences only makes his work better!
An Example of Jon’s Varied Experiences
Jon recently had the opportunity to work with an elderly couple whose farm had been severely damaged by a tornado. This smaller, multigenerational farm needed new bins, legs, power, and more. More than any state-of-the-art or large-scale project, it was getting this farm operational again that sticks out in Jon’s mind.
And it wasn’t the first time Jon had worked with this family. Previously, he had helped this client set up a used dryer he had purchased, pouring the concrete, installing the structure, and getting it working order before harvest.
But this all comes down to one of Jon’s favorite parts of the job. “It amazes me, I’ve been in the farming industry for 49 years. And no two farmers do it the same. Every job is unique and I truly enjoy every job.”
