FS Construction Services low-maintenance steel buildings

Low-Maintenance Steel Buildings Save Time and Resources

We all love the promise of something that’s low maintenance. We also know that something billed as low maintenance is usually never as simple as it promises to be. But, while being up front about the fact that every new building does require some maintenance, we feel pretty comfortable saying that a steel building is about as low maintenance as they can come.

FS Construction Services Low-Maintenance Steel Buildings

Put simply, steel buildings are durable. So, barring an actual structural concern or emergency repair, much of the maintenance steel buildings do require can be done at a pace of when it’s most convenient for you. Simple things like keeping tools, equipment, and even tree branches off of the building’s interior and exterior sides and roof will prevent wear, scratches, and warping over time.

Another simple piece of maintenance is, just like a car, giving your building a good wash from time to time. Keeping your building clean will prevent dirt and grime from building up on the panels, which can eventually cause surface damage. Speaking of water though, you will want to make sure there are no places where moisture is collecting, because it can eventually lead to mold and corrosion. While you don’t have to worry about rot or pests destroying your steel structure, you will want to keep an eye out for anything that can cause rust or wear down its strength over time.

In most cases, a little upkeep here and there will keep your steel building standing strong year after year after year. FSCS Construction Services pole barn versatility

Pole Barn Versatility: Diverse Applications and Modern Uses

Here at FS Construction Services, one of our favorite topics will forever be buildings. Specifically, versatile, customizable buildings that perfectly suit the job they’re needed for. And while this is true of our steel and wood buildings, today we are going to focus on one of the most affordable types of buildings: pole barns and pole barn versatility.

A pole barn carries with it a lot of potential because of how particularly it can be fitted for a needed application. In most cases with pole barns, the limit is only your imagination. That being said, pole barns still offer a high degree of durability, ventilation, and open space to make them widely usable.

Four Applications: Pole Barn Versatility

Agriculture

Pole barns are well-suited to a number of agricultural needs: livestock operations, stalls or shelter for animals, storage for farm equipment and machinery.

Vehicles and Equipment

Pole barns are able to maintain wide spans of open space to store large vehicles, tractors, RVs, boats, and more. Similarly, they are equally capable of housing heavy machinery, equipment, and tools.

Commercial Use

The uses extend beyond just animal and vehicle storage though. Pole barns work well as warehouses, manufacturing buildings, and even retail spaces or commercial offices. The high degree of flexibility means your pole barn can be a professional, comfortable commercial space.

Recreational Use

If you are looking for something a little more leisurely, pole barns can make excellent fitness centers, sports facilities, banquet halls, and more.

Truthfully, we’ve only scratched the surface here, but we hope it’s given you a good idea of how you might make use of these strong, affordable structures. If you are interested in a post-frame building, or in a steel or wood building, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

Brian Boomer Garleb FSCS paint division painting services

Employee Profile: Brian “Boomer” Garleb – FSCS Paint Division

Last month we continued our FS Construction Services employee profile series by introducing Brian “Boomer” Garleb. Boomer doesn’t just run the FSCS paint division for us, Boomer is the paint division. His over 30 years of experience, his stellar reputation, and the tremendous wealth of knowledge he has built over that time make him a great asset to our customers.

FSCS Paint Division Customers and Bids

Speaking of customers, Boomer has maintained so many repeat customers over these last three decades for a reason. He handles every job himself, meaning our clients are always getting the best of the best when they reach out to us for a paint job. Boomer bids out jobs by the square foot and insists on being upfront and honest, even if it means the customer would be better offer replacing a surface instead of having Boomer paint it.

When potential customers are interested in our paint services, Boomer will go out to meet with them and look at the structure or space they need painted. Boomer’s process involves removing rust if needed, power washing, priming, and painting. After Boomer provides a quote for the job, his process is to give the potential customer the time and space they need to decide. He won’t pester them over the phone or come knocking back on their door. When they decide they’re ready to move forward, he’ll be ready to add them into his schedule. Boomer’s projects include a five-year warranty and usually won’t need any repainting or touchup for another 10-15 years.

Boomer takes a simple, no-fuss approach to his work. His honesty, fairness, and quality of work say everything that needs to be said.

If you are in need of paint services, or have any related questions, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services small building site storage building

Project Profile: Storage Building on Small Building Site

Of all the many projects we get to work on here at FS Construction Services, there really are few things as satisfying as watching an empty space transform into a brand-new building in just a couple short weeks. Fortunately, this is something we get to see pretty often, and it’s always exciting to see how each new building owner will choose to utilize their new space. This was the case last year when we had the opportunity to turn a relatively small building site on a moderately steep grade into a functional, beautiful storage space for our client.

Making the Best of a Small Building Site

Tom Marcheski and his team got to work quickly to get our client up and running with their new structure. The 30’ x 32’ x 10’ building was constructed on a 10” x 48” foundation wall due to the grade of the build site. The building itself features a 6” thick concrete floor, an 8’ x 17’ x 10’ recessed porch, 3’ color-matched wainscotting around the bottom of the building, and a 9’ x 8’ Raynor Aspen series steel-backed, insulated door with a Raynor Pilot 8’ 1/2hp chain drive operator. The building also features four windows, a charcoal gray metal roof, gutters, and an attractive red with white trim appearance.

The strong structure matched with the metal roof and the well-insulated door will allow this building to stand strong for many years to come and effectively keep safe and weather-proof whatever the owner chooses to store inside.

If you are in need of a new wood, steel, or post-frame building, even if you have a potentially tricky build site, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

Gateway FS Construction Services steel building for farm storage

Five Benefits of a Steel Building for Farm Storage

Here at FS Construction Services, we are grateful to be living in a time when engineering and technology have gotten to be so good and efficient, that whether you ultimately choose a steel or a wood building for agricultural use, either way you end up with a dependable, useful structure that should last you for a long time. That being said, you might be saying to yourself, “I’ve still got to choose one. So which one should I go for?” So we thought we’d take a little time to discuss some of the unique benefits that a steel building provides, especially a steel building for farm storage.

A Steel Building for Farm Storage Advantage

Cost Over Time

A steel building might cost you a little more up front, but over time, you’re likely to make back that investment. Steel buildings are unbeaten in their durability and longevity.

Convenience

One of the great benefits of steel is the ability to have a building with clear, unbroken spans of space. This is particularly necessary for storing or moving large farm equipment, but having the uninterrupted space can provide a number of other conveniences and efficiencies that you don’t get with support pillars.

Lower Maintenance

Of course, no building is no maintenance, but low maintenance is possible. With steel, you don’t have to bother with re-painting, and you don’t have to worry about mold, termites, or fire damage.

Protection

Speaking of fire damage, steel buildings also allow for great wind and impact resistance. So if you are living in a place where the weather can get rough, the strength of steel will provide some peace of mind.

Options

Steel buildings are often very customizable, from colors to styles to layout. If you have a specific or unique requirement, you will find that opting for a steel building might provide you the options you need.

If you are looking at a new building, and would like to talk to steel or wood, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. FS Construction Services barndominium

Project Profile: Barndominium

At FS Construction Services we really do love a unique project. However, when you’ve been in the game as long as we have, you find that your tendency towards surprise diminishes somewhat as the years tick on. That’s why we were so excited when this project, lovingly called the  Barndominium, came our way.

You Need a Beautiful Barndominium

The idea was simple enough: tear down an existing structure, leave the basement, and build a luxury barndominium on top of it. What’s a barndominium? Well, stay tuned and you’ll find out.

The resulting building is an efficient 30’ x 40’ x 8’ and required the coordination of multiple companies and professionals to get across the finish line. The final product features seamless gutters and leaf-guards, a 3’ x 3’ cupola, an 8’ x 16’ x 8’ trimmed-out back porch, a 12’ x 24’ x 8’ trimmed-out front porch, custom bathroom and kitchen cabinets, cistern, septic, and plumbing systems, as well as amenities like a custom walk-in closet and a walk-in shower.

All said and done, this turnkey home packs a beautiful living space into a relatively small footprint. Attractive inside and out, this is one of the more exciting uses we’ve seen of existing property. To connect the old space with the new space, we constructed stairs and rails down into the basement, effectively merging the two living areas into one.

Not only was it a lot of fun to see this project come together, we had the opportunity to work alongside a number of other wonderful professionals and colleagues. It has been incredibly fulfilling to see all of that work and experience create something so unique and useful.

FS Construction Services new building addition interior

Project Profile Part Two: Building Addition Interior

Last month we discussed an 18’ x 46’ x 10’ 6” addition to a building that our team completed late last year. We previously hinted at some of the unique features of this construction, though we mostly focused on the exterior features last time around. This month, we are excited to go a little more in depth on how the building addition interior of the addition turned out.

Premier Building Addition Interior

Like we said last time, we here at FS Construction Services love the opportunity to approach a job from a different angle and this structure allowed us that opportunity.

While the exterior was designed to match comfortably with the pre-existing building, throughout the interior we were able to add some features to truly help it stand out. First of all, in order to provide picture windows and an abundance of natural light, we actually used patio door panes instead of traditional windows. Each door was turned on its side to achieve the desired look. The result is a bright interior with two wide, clear views of the outside.

Throughout the rest of the office area, we lined the walls and ceiling with Car siding to create a truly unique and personalized space. The addition of this siding with the picturesque windows helped to create a one-of-a-kind space that’s also full of warmth and light.

As always, Tom Marcheski and his team did a terrific job working with our client to find the right approach to this project. If you are in the process of deciding if you need a new building, whether it’s wood or steel, or a new building addition, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. FS Construction Services Nathan Bleem customer Support

Bleem Profile: Troubleshooting and Customer Support

As we have been taking the time here at FS Construction Services to highlight some of our outstanding team members, it has provided us with a great opportunity to take a look at the services we offer and understand better how positioned we are to respond to the needs, questions, and problems of our clients and customers.

Customer Support is the Core of What We Do

This has been especially apparent in discussing our Service and Sales Support specialist Nathan Bleem. Since Nathan walks with our clients through every step of the process, he is often at the receiving end of lots of questions, and therefore has to provide lots of answers.

Any major project is going to have its fair share of required troubleshooting, but the kind of support Nathan provides happens throughout the process and not just after something has been constructed. Often our clients present a logistical problem before the build and Nathan has to figure out the solution.

For instance, when a client wants to increase the height of their existing grain bin, the job isn’t just a matter of figuring out where to add rings to increase the height, but it’s also figuring out which manufacturer’s components will work with what is already in place. Figuring that out first prevents problems down the road.

Similarly, clients often present us with a variety of storage, handling, drying, construction, and pricing questions. Our job is to find the right solution to these before anything is built, which means making a decision based on acreage, expected yields, drying needs, and more.

While it’s a lot of conversation up front, it saves future headaches and gives our clients a better understanding of cost and timing. Thanks to Nathan’s incredible knowledge and understanding of the process, we are able to provide this service in partnership with our clients, making for a smoother, better process all around.

If you have a project in mind that you would like to discuss, or if you are in need of grain systems, buildings, seed systems, or more, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services new building addition to existing building

Project Profile: Building Addition

When it comes to constructing a building that reaches its highest potential it’s necessary to have quality raw materials, solid construction, a good plan, and, perhaps surprisingly, a healthy dose of imagination. Sometimes the success of a building is in the littlest details, the clever additions, or the personal touches that make it feel less like “a building” and more like “my building.”

Building Addition to Existing Structure

At FS Construction Services, we have built enough structures to know that a specific approach, even to the most basic project, can make all the difference to a client.

This was the case late last year when we were asked to build an addition to an existing structure. While the interior of this project ended up with some unique features, we are going to focus on the exterior elements this month.

The first thing we had to do was match the 18’ x 46’ x 10’ 6” addition to the current building. The lean-to was posted onto a concrete slab and the exterior styling was matched with the original building, including the 18” overhangs all around.

This addition includes heated and cooled office space with lots of natural light as well as a garage for a wide range of storage needs. While we will get into it more next month, our team was able to include a number of unique features to provide our client with a space that not only serves their functional needs, but also feels like a space that is uniquely theirs.

If you are in need a new building, whether it’s wood or steel, or a new building addition, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.
