FS Construction Services finding gratitude

Finding Gratitude in a Turbulent Year

Despite perhaps one of the most difficult, hectic, and strange years many of us can remember, we have managed to make it here to the end of 2020. And while it would be easy to reflect on just how unusual and confusing this year has been, we wanted to take a moment to slow down and count the things that we have appreciated.

Finding Gratitude for Incredible People

We are beyond grateful for our many wonderful clients and customers who have continued to reach out to us for help and service, despite the uncertainty that each new day has brought. Simply put, there would be no FS Construction Services without the incredible people that we have had the opportunity to work with year after year.

We are thankful for the family and friends that we have had around us when it has mattered most. We have always loved getting to serve our community and that will never change, even in tough times.

And we appreciate, more than we can say, the enduring spirit of the hardworking people that we see every day. Despite the unpredictable series of complications and troubles we have known this year, seeds were still planted, crops were still harvested, buildings were still built, and one way or another, people found a way to keep going.

We hope that wherever this moment may find you, that you will also be able to take some time to reflect on the simple pleasures and the small blessings that have carried us all through.

Who knows what the next day will bring, let alone the next year, and we don’t take it for granted that tomorrow is guaranteed. But we have also seen hope and joy in the endurance and stamina of those around us. And that is absolutely something to celebrate. So, wherever you are this holiday season, we wish you happiness and peace and the strength to keep moving forward.

As always, we are here for any of your building, grain system, seed system, roofing, garage door, and painting needs. If you have any questions at all, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. Garage Door Safety FS Construction Services Red Bud IL

Knowing Your Garage Door Parts Can Keep You Safe

Here at FS Construction Services we always like to say that a garage door is one of those things you don’t notice until it stops working the way it should, and then it becomes something you can’t ignore. Because of this, it can also be easy to forget that garage doors are very heavy and can actually be dangerous if they are not maintained properly.

Garage Door Safety Tips

Our partners over at Raynor Garage Doors have put together a useful list of things to keep in mind with your garage door and its specific parts.

  • Section Joints are the joints between garage door sections. Think of this part of the garage door like the gap between the door and the wall when you open any standard door. It may fit your fingers when it’s open, but it certainly won’t when it’s closed. When manually opening a garage door, be sure to keep your fingers away from these section joints.
  • Corner Brackets are the brackets that are attached to the bottom corners of your garage door. The cables responsible for raising and lowering the garage door are attached to these brackets. Because of this, these brackets are under tension, and should only be removed by a professional.
  • Extension and Torsion Springs balance the garage door and provide lifting power. These springs should only be serviced by a trained technician.
  • Photoelectric Eyes and Sensing Edges are the sensors that send an invisible beam across the space of your garage door. If this beam is obstructed, by a car, a foot, etc., the garage door will stop closing. Making sure these sensors are functioning properly is necessary when it comes to keeping your stuff and you and your family safe.
  • Lift Handles and Pull Ropes allow you to manually open your door in the event of a power outage or a malfunctioning door. Make sure any ropes can’t accidentally hook onto anything when opening normally. Additionally, when opening or closing a garage door manually, be sure to keep fingers, toes, and other body parts clear of the door.

If you are in need of a new garage door or in need of garage door services, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services Red Bud IL multi-purpose building

Project Profile: A Building For Many Purposes

Here at FS Construction Services, we know that a building can be many things: a place to relax, a place to keep your stuff dry, a place to keep important things protected. And sometimes, a building needs to be a little bit of all of those things at the same time. Recently, we worked with a client who needed just that.

Unique Multi-Purpose Storage Building Features Horse Stables

The 66’ x 120’ x 17’ building was built on a 12” stem wall and was designed to function as part agricultural storage, part machine storage, part general purpose, and part horse stables. This durable structure includes 5” x 8” laminated columns set with L brackets on the stem wall as well as a metal roof with ice guards and a seamless gutter system. The roof also includes three cupolas: one 4’ x 4’ cupola with glass windows and two 3’ x 3’ louvered. The roof is finished with DripStop protection to prevent excess moisture from building up on the roof and falling to the ground below.

The building features three overhead doors, two 16.5’ sliding doors that combine to create a 33’ wide opening, and two 12’ x 14’ doors for additional access. These are Raynor garage doors that provide weather protection and thermal insulation.

Increasing the multipurpose function of the building, three double Dutch-style doors lead to three interior horse stables. As for the exterior, the building features 3’ charcoal-colored wainscotting accents and a large, covered patio to provide extra covering and protection.

Though this building was built to serve a number of needs, we build wood and steel structures to fulfill a wide variety of functions and purposes. If you are in need of a new building, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. Finding Courage in a Year Like No Other

There is no denying that this has been a year like no other. As the months have passed on, it has been hard for many not to feel worn down, tired, and even hopeless. And yet, no matter how bleak things may feel, or how dark the outlook may seem, we are not without hope. All around us are stories of men and women who refused to give up, who kept on fighting, and had courage even when no one else did.

Remember Those Who Served This Veteran’s Day

Some of these stories we may know and some of them we never will. This November 11, as we reflect on the sacrifice and bravery of the men and women who have served our country, we hope that you will also take courage in their courage. Even in the midst of uncertainty and doubt, time and time again, people have shown their ability to rise above and keep on going. Whether it was overseas or right here at home, our veterans have proven that it is possible to be resilient and to persevere, no matter the adversity. So if you are spending Veteran’s Day with family and friends, or if you are spending it alone, we hope that you can find some comfort and solace, even in a difficult time.

And to those of you who have served, we would like to say thank you, not just for your service, but for the example you have provided for the rest of us.

FS Construction Services farm safety power lines

5 Tips for Staying Safe Around Power Lines this Harvest

While this year has certainly been a year unlike any other, the realities of the ebb and flow of time haven’t changed a bit. After spring came summer, after summer came fall, and harvest, as it always does, has arrived. While many of us have had to take a number of extra precautions in our everyday lives this year, the high level of caution needed during harvest has remained the same. And while there are many safety tips and practices to bear in mind, we here at FS Construction Services wanted to take a little time to talk specifically about staying safe around power lines.

Stay Safe this Fall Around Power Lines

There’s no way around it, as a farmer, at some point in time you’ll be working around electrical equipment. Often, you’ll be working around electrical equipment in large, tall machines. We have compiled some information from Safe Electricity to have on hand as a reminder this year.

  1. Know when you’ll be working areas near power lines. Have a plan to keep everyone safe.
  2. Use a spotter to help keep you at least 10 ft. away from power lines in all directions.
  3. Be careful when raising augers. Use a spotter if necessary. When not in use, lower equipment extensions as low as they can go.
  4. This may be obvious, but never attempt to move a power line, even if it’s in your way.
  5. If any equipment you are on comes in contact with a power line, don’t leave the equipment. Call professionals to come and safely de-energize the line. If the equipment is on fire, jump as far away from the line as you can, with both feet together, to keep a current from flowing through your body.

There is, of course, much more that could be said, but hopefully none of this information is new to you and is simply a reminder. We wish you a safe and successful harvest this year. If you have any questions about grain systems, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services building horse barn

A Building With All the Bells, Whistles, and Saddles

Over the years here at FS Construction Services we have talked often about the many uses and benefits of wood and steel buildings. Much of the time these buildings are used for storage, vehicles, and agricultural equipment. Recently, however, we had the chance to construct a building for another means of transportation: horses.

Wood and Steel Storage Buildings

This 54’ x 88’ x 16.5’ multipurpose structure was actually built to fulfill a variety of purposes, including: suburban storage, machine storage, general purpose, and horse stable. This building is constructed with strong, patented 5’ x 6’ laminated columns, creating a very durable structure. Additionally, we installed R19-rated wall insulation and R42 blown insulation in the ceiling to provide year-round comfort for both animals and people.

One of the most exciting features of this project is the actual horse stalls themselves. We built four individual stalls, but installed a custom, moveable stall/wall divider that can merge two of the stalls together, creating a huge third stall area. Over the stalls we constructed a loft to provide further storage space.

This project also included four overhead doors, two are 18’ x 14’, one is 18’ x 12’, and one that is 12’ x 12’. These are Raynor Aspen AP200 series doors featuring window panels and nylon rollers for extended life and performance.

While we worked hard to make the interior as comfortable as possible, our client wanted to make sure they had an attractive exterior too. This building features: 4’ high natural rock wainscoting, (2) 3’x 3’ cupolas with windows, a cedar truss covered door entry, 48’ x 10’ Dutch finish back porch, double Dutch doors for exterior stable entry, upper windows with fixed insulated and lined eve lights, and three walk-in doors with keyless entry.

While this was a pretty feature-rich project, we construct all kinds of buildings for all kinds of purposes, from simple storage sheds to comfortable office spaces. If you are in need of a new building, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

Seed Systems Update FS Construction Services

Project Profile: A Complicated Seed System Update in Perfect Time

Over the years here at FS Construction Services, we’ve had the chance to work on almost every type of construction job there is, from new construction, to restoration, to retrofitting old structures and equipment. And while it’s often easier to just start with a blank slate, we’ve also found that we do love a good challenge. This latest challenge took us north to Salem, Illinois.

With seed systems, one of the main challenges comes when combining existing equipment with brand-new, state-of-the-art systems. Luckily, our team has proven experience at providing customer support and service when these situations arise. Our team put their heads together and got this tricky job done in perfect time.

Our client needed to upgrade an existing box-to-box loss-in-weight seed system. To add a bulk system to this older equipment, the team came up with a unique design. In order to make best use of what was already there, we moved the existing loss-in-weight seed metering system to the bulk side of the system, then added a Tri-Flo Continuous Scale.

After installation, our team stayed on site to provide extensive training and support on the new system so our client could take over with as few hiccups as possible. With all of our seed system jobs, our goal isn’t just to get some new equipment in place, but to make sure that our clients have a system that meets their needs now and into the future. Plus, we ensure they are trained, comfortable and ready to get the most out of their new equipment.

If you are in need of a new or upgraded seed system, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services grain systems rearranging

Project Profile: Rearranging a Farm

Most people have experienced the feeling of looking at a room, or a garage, or a cabinet, or a tool bench and realizing that things just aren’t where they should be. That if you were to rearrange everything a certain way or organize items a little differently, then your space would be a lot more enjoyable and a lot more efficient. And usually, this happens over and over again as the years go on.

Unfortunately, this process is a whole lot harder when it comes to farm equipment. However, here at FS Construction Services we like a good challenge, and so when a client reached out to us about a reorganization job involving grain bins, we were happy to help.

First, we built a brand new 42’ tall, 7-ring Sukup grain bin with a bushel capacity of 34,000. This storage container also included two 10hp centrifugal fans, stairs, and a 10” unload. Our client wanted this new bin in a different location than the previous bins, and so to get everything in one convenient place, we not only moved two 24’ grain bins but we also added rings to them. Additionally, we built a new set of stairs between the old bins and added new floors and an unload.

While no small task, this act of reorganization plus the addition of a new bin will set our client up for success not just in the present, but well into the future. The increased efficiency and ease of use should be a great help to our client for many years to come.

Whether you’re looking for a brand new grain storage system or you are looking to retrofit or update an old one, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.
