FS Construction Services doubles grain bin storage

Project Profile: Doubling Grain Bin Storage is an Easy Fit

Over the years here at FS Construction Services we have pretty much worked with every variety of client in every variety of situation. We have worked with blank slates and empty slabs and we have worked with old equipment to make it new again. Each job is different and each job site has its own set of obstacles. And while we love a good challenge, we also enjoy the occasional job that comes along that is simply as straightforward as it sounds. Last year we had the opportunity to work with a client on a wonderfully simple, though no less meaningful project, grain bin storage.

Installing Grain Bin Doubles Storage

The world of agriculture is large and hard to plan to for. Sometimes you think you’ll be able to push something off to the next season and then all of a sudden you need it right away. Sometimes the growth you were expecting doesn’t happen and you have to push your plans back. Sometimes we have to jump through significant hoops and other times, things nicely fall into place. In this case, we were able to come alongside our client’s existing storage bin and install a brand-new 36’ diameter, 7-ring tall Sukup bin with a bushel capacity of 23,950. We installed stairs between the two bins, providing safe access to both in addition to two fans to provide enough air flow for successful drying as well.

Doubling someone’s storage capabilities isn’t always such an easy task, however, our job is to figure out how to make your needs work. If you are in need of grain storage updates, or you are looking for new grain drying or grain handling equipment, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

On-site grain storage FS Construction Services

Three Reasons On-Site Grain Storage Might Be for You

At FS Construction Services, we understand that even with all the planning in the world and despite everyone’s best intentions, so often there are things that are simply outside of our control. Having worked with so many people in the agricultural industry over the years, we have seen this play out time and time again. And while we know there is never any solution that is without a caveat or a concern, we always like to encourage options that bring just a little bit more control into our clients’ hands. So we wanted to take a little time to talk about the benefits of on-site grain storage.

On-Site Grain Storage Provides More Control

Financial

Obviously, whichever way you decide, there are costs involved. Installing grain storage and drying equipment can be expensive. Initially, it will be more expensive than transporting your grain to a mill or elevator. But as with most things, given a little time, the long-term outcome can beat out the short-term gain.

Storing your grain on site gives you flexibility and options regarding when you want to sell it and how you want to sell it. Waiting to sell your grain until after the harvest rush can save you money on freight costs and increase the profit you make from the sale itself. Additionally, it gives you the option to market the grain where and how you want. Changes in the market, unpredictable weather, unforeseen demand can all throw off the price of grain. Holding on to it yourself gives you the option to sell when the time is right.

Animal Feed

Perhaps not the most obvious benefit, but on-site grain can be used as animal feed when needed. Rather than buying bulk feed with a short shelf life, on-site grain can be made fresh each week, providing for your livestock and eliminating waste.

Efficiency

Waiting in line at the elevator or mill can eat into your day. On-site storage gives you the ability to work the hours you want or need to and immediately begin the drying process to avoid spoilage or rot. Ideally, the increased flexibility will give you the option to work around bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances since you won’t be at the mercy of someone else’s hours.

While we know it might not be for everyone, we think the increased control and flexibility of on-site grain storage are certainly worth consideration. If you are in need of a new grain system or additional grain storage, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services grain bin

Project Profile: Expanding a Site with a 42’ Grain Bin

At FS Construction Services we know both from personal experience and from so many of the clients we work with that it takes a lot of foresight and planning to effectively grow an operation. Fast growth is great, unless you don’t have the resources to handle the sudden increase. And building new equipment is a great idea, unless you don’t have the intake to justify the expansion. Like pretty much everything else in life, there’s a balance to be found. Recently, we got to work with come clients who had a smart plan for their growth and we were happy to set them up with the grain bin equipment they needed to get it done.

Planning for Growth with a New Grain Bin

While it’s always fun to break new ground, working on an existing site always allows for exciting retrofitting and repurposing opportunities. Which was exactly the case this time. We built a brand-new 9-ring tall, 42’ in diameter Sukup grain bin with a bushel capacity of 41,800. We added a T20 Sukup dryer, which can handle a significant amount of grain at a time. Additionally, we installed a 5” air system with a selector valve.

To add to the project, our clients were transforming an existing bin into a wet tank, and we installed an auger and an optional bypass kit for them. Together, with a little bit of old and a lot of new, our clients were setting themselves up for a vastly expanded and more efficient operation.

If you are in need of upgrading or updating your existing grain systems, whether you need grain drying, grain handling, or grain storage equipment, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services Grain bin project profile

Project Profile: A 36’ Grain Bin Gives Some Certainty

Something that is always true for our friends and clients in the world of agriculture is that for them to succeed at their jobs, a number of things outside of their control must also happen. Not enough rain, too much rain, late frost, early frost, hail, invasive pests, etc., can all come without a moment’s notice and dramatically impact a growing season. And that’s just the natural side of things. On top of that there’s equipment that can break down, an aging grain bin can cause mold and rot, and on and on.

Replaced Aging Grain Bin Before Harvest

At FS Construction Services, we know that this can be stressful. Which is why our goal is always to provide a little guarantee into a world full of uncertainties. This was the case last September when a client needed a place to store their soon-to-be incoming grain. Thanks to our expert team, we were able to construct a 36’ diameter, 7-ring tall Sukup grain storage bin with a 24,000 bushel capacity. Additionally, we installed a horizontal power sweep unload, an axial fan, a spreader, and an exterior ladder with a safety cage. All of this was constructed within the month, ensuring our client would be able to move into harvest with one less what-if hovering over them.

We know that in this line of work all you can do is be as prepared as possible and then deal with whatever comes when it comes. Our job is to limit as many of those variables as possible by providing quality equipment and knowledgeable installation. If you are looking to update or upgrade your grain storage, grain handling, or grain drying equipment, or if you want to see what kind of equipment we would suggest for your situation, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services grain bin capacity storage

Project Profile: 66,000 Bushel Grain Bin Capacity Just in Time

At FS Construction Services, there are few better feelings than knowing that we’ve been able to provide some help in a time of need. Unfortunately for so many of our clients and friends in the agricultural world, their jobs can’t just be put on hold when something breaks down or wears out. They have a small window and if they miss it, there’s no going back. Because those demands of life never take a break, such as increasing your grain bin capacity, we work as hard as we can to keep up with them.

Increased Grain Bin Capacity Right Before Harvest

Last September, we had the opportunity to step in and help a client get set up with everything they needed to meet the coming harvest head on. Nathan Koester and his team built two brand-new 7-ring 42’ Sukup grain storage bins. Each bin had a capacity of 33,000 bushels, giving our client a huge boost in storage capacity just in time to use it. Additionally, our team installed a shared staircase between the two bins for access convenience and safety, as well as a power sweep and a centrifugal fan to keep the grain from developing moisture and mildew. Finally, we set both bins on an extra tall foundation to provide better access to the horizontal unload.

With the job complete, our client was able to move forward with the harvest without having to worry about having the space or equipment they would need to meet the demands of the yield.

If you are looking to update or upgrade your grain storage, grain handling, or grain drying equipment, or if you want to see what kind of equipment we would suggest for your situation, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Grain Storage for Harvest FS Construction Services

Project Profile: Fully Equipped Grain Storage

While much of the world hit pause on a lot of things last year, there were some things that had to keep going no matter what. Crops still needed to be planted, tended to, and harvested. Which meant that there were farmers who still needed help when they found themselves with broken equipment or not enough space to hold their grain. And of course, that meant FS Construction Services was still hard at work upgrading equipment and building new structures.

Grain Storage for Harvest in a Pinch or a Long Term Plan

This was the case last September, when a client was staring down the coming harvest in need of some extra storage space. Nathan Koester and his team got to work quickly and constructed a 33’ 6-ring Sukup grain bin. This storage bin had a capacity of 15,000 bushels and also featured a 2-down auger, Fastir Stirring Machine, an axial fan and heater, a spreader, and a power sweep. Basically everything needed to prevent rotting, ensure evenly dried grain, and provide just a little bit of certainty in an uncertain time.

The project was finished shortly after we started it and in time for our client to make full use of it during the harvest season. And while life will no doubt continue to be unpredictable, we are always thankful that we have the opportunity to provide little bits of security and reinforcements when they’re needed.

No matter the circumstances, our clients don’t ever stop, which means neither do we. Whether you find yourself in a pinch or you are deep into some long-term planning, if you need grain storage, grain handling, or grain drying equipment, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services grain bin addition for harvest

Project Profile: Grain Bin

At FS Construction Services, we always like to think that there is no project that we don’t enjoy. From detail work or simply painting a hard-to-access peak of a house to constructing large commercial spaces for agricultural operations and pretty much everything in between, we are happy to be of service. That being said, as anyone with a lot of Legos and a little bit of time can attest to, there is just something satisfying about building something either from the ground up or as an addition to an existing structure, such as this grain bin.

FSCS Sukup Grain Bin Addition Increases Grain Storage

Last September, we had the opportunity to do just that. Nathan Koester and his team worked with a client who was in need of more grain storage and better cooling behind their dryer. With harvest fast approaching and the need for storage looming, we got to work quickly to get the job done.

The final product was a 50,000 bushel, 15-ring tall Sukup grain bin that measured 36’ in diameter. This commercial bin was set up with a 5,000-pound load roof accessible by outside stairs complete with a safety rail. Additionally, we installed a 10” power sweep, a ceiling fan, and a roof auger. When it was all said and done, our client had significantly increased their storage capacity and was ready for whatever yields the harvest could throw their way.

If you are looking to increase your grain systems, improve your operation’s efficiency, or simply upgrade or retrofit aging equipment, we would love to help. Whether you have questions on what the best next step might be or if you know exactly what you want and just need to get it built, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services grain systems

Getting Grain Systems Ready for Fall

Forgive us if we sound like a broken record, but somehow it is already September, and all of those we’ll get to in the summer ideas are quickly running out of time. Harvest is here and pretty soon many of our clients will be right in the thick of it. If you haven’t had a chance to get out and evaluate your grain drying, grain storage, and other equipment yet, now is the time to avoid future problems and make sure your grain systems are up to date and running properly.

Grain Systems Pre-Harvest Preventative Maintenance

It’s always a good idea to fire everything up and make sure things will run as expected. It’s also a good idea to address any issues that may have come up last year. Did any of your grain spoil? Did you see any mold or unwanted moisture? Now is the time to squeeze in any last-minute maintenance on your drying systems. Our team is available to inspect any of your drying equipment and make sure that you are set up for an evenly-dried product in the future.

A little upkeep can go a long way, so be sure to clean out your equipment, check for gaps or holes where pests or moisture can come through. If you have had issues keeping grain thoroughly or evenly dry, it may be time to upgrade or expand your drying capabilities. Sometimes a little retrofitting is all you need for your equipment to work like it is brand new again.

While harvest is fast approaching, it is not too late to be prepared. If you find yourself looking at too little storage, outdated equipment, or any other issues or needs with grain storage, drying, or handling, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FSCS Construction Services grain system needs

We’ve Got Your Grain Needs Covered

“The best defense is a good offense,” is one of those age-old cliches that can be applied to almost anything and most people have probably heard it enough times to no longer consider its meaning. But bear with us as we use it to make at least one more point. When it comes to proper grain care, well… you know the rest. Let us know, we can help with your grain system needs.

Premier Selection of Grain Systems

There are a lot of things that can go wrong throughout the process of transferring your grain from field to storage. But even more than that, there are a lot of things that can seem to go okay, but over time, a little extra moisture or a pocket of grain that doesn’t get stirred or a storage bin that isn’t sealed off from pests, and suddenly you can find yourself playing defense to a host of problems. Stopping those problems before they happen is not only possible, it will save you time, headaches, and money.

The less you have to handle grain, the better. If your unloading tubes, augers, conveyers, or other handling equipment are no longer doing their job or you’ve consistently had to run over capacity, it may be time for an upgrade.

Similarly, if your drying fans and stirrers are no longer able to keep up, or if you need to be able to hold more in your bins, then you’re probably due for some new storage equipment.

We get the desire to put off any change for as long as possible, but if you are able to tend to these things before the problems happen, you should find yourself a lot more peace come harvest time.

If you’re grain handling and storage equipment just doesn’t seem to be cutting it anymore, whether you need a total overhaul or an upgrade of existing equipment, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.
