FS Construction Services metal roofing

A Metal Roof is the Best Kind of Weather Preparation

While it may only be September, and this year may have felt like one of the longest years many of us have ever lived through, winter will be here again, and probably well before we feel like it should be. Colder months approaching means all of the usual precautions and preparations will be needed, and the sooner those are taken care of, the fewer problems you have to think or worry about.

In particular, if you’re approaching the time for a new roof, it is most likely in your best interest to act sooner rather than later. And here at FS Construction Services, we’re big fans of metal roofs. Our partners at Fabral make some of the strongest, longest lasting roofs around. First and foremost, metal roofing doesn’t crack, shrink, or erode like traditional roof shingles do. Additionally, it’s designed to stand up to extreme weather conditions including high wind, snow, ice, and hail. On top of all of that, metal roofs can last decades longer than traditional roofs, meaning once you get one installed, you really don’t have to think about it again for a long, long time.

However, one thing many people might not think about when it comes to the benefits of metal roofs is their thermal efficiency. On top of the tight seals that can be achieved with a metal roof, there are a number of insulation options that further increase the roof’s ability to keep cold out and hold heat in.

FS Construction Services thank you veterans

Remembering our Nation’s Brave Veterans

As we enter this time of year, it seems like there are no shortage of opportunities to pause, reflect, and be grateful for the things that we have. From New Years to Christmas to Thanksgiving, the roller coaster of holidays and festivities can seem endless. The busyness of this time of year can also make it feel impossible to do the thing we’re constantly told we should be doing: slowing down, taking stock, and finding gratefulness, including for our veterans.

Monday, November 11, presents another one of those opportunities, albeit on a day when most businesses will still be open and most people working. Though there may not be presents or parties, Veteran’s Day is no less important a day to commemorate.

At FS Construction Services, we know how busy a day can get and how fast a day can go. We know how easy it is to blink and suddenly it’s 10pm and you have no idea where the time went. But this November 11 we ask that you join us and make the time to remember. Find a few minutes to consider the cost that the men and women who have served our country have paid, the nights they’ve spent away from their families, and the danger they have put themselves in. How our nation’s veterans have willingly set aside their freedoms and safety to protect our homes and our families.

So to all the veterans far and wide: thank you. Your sacrifice is a remarkable thing and it will not be easily forgotten or overlooked.

As always, FS Construction Services is here for your buildinggarage doorgrain systemseed systemroofing, and other handiwork needs. Our group of experts and specialists are always happy to answer your questions, give you advice, or help you in any way. Please feel free to reach out to Gateway FS Construction Services. Metal Building renovation

Breathing New Life Into an Old FS Building: Part 2

This is the second of two articles covering the extensive updates done to an old FS structure this past February as it transformed into something that looks like it could have been built yesterday. While it is always fun to build a brand-new structure from the ground up, sometimes it is equally satisfying to take an old structure and make it feel new again. Sometimes this is the renovation or preservation of something historic, and other times, it’s simply a matter of efficiency and cost, as it was with this great older building.

New Ceiling and Metal Walls Transform This Building

In the quest to ensure this old FS building would continue to serve its purpose, we added new sliding doors and a new roof over the smaller, office portion of the structure. After these first two changes were complete, our team went about a couple more major renovations. The first was the installation of a new ceiling in the 32 x 54’ shop area of the building. This new ceiling was filled with blown-in insulation to significantly increase the structure’s thermal efficiency.

With doors, roof, and ceiling all updated, there was one major update still left to tackle. The original building featured large polymer panels, effectively turning the building into a type of greenhouse. Similar to the doors, we replaced those polymer panels with red metal walls to match the rest of the structure and create a more unified look.

Relying on the solid bones of the original building, our team was able to make some key updates to ensure our client will have many, many more comfortable, functional years with this structure. If you are looking for steel or wood building work, whether it’s new construction or updating existing buildings, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services fall maintenance

Preventing Winter Emergencies with Fall Maintenance

With the days already getting shorter and (occasionally) cooler, as sudden as ever, summer is has ended and fall has begun. And while there’s always the hope of a couple of calm, temperate autumn months, winter usually shows up sooner than anyone wants. It’s all too easy to overestimate the amount of time you have left until the real cold starts and all too common to leave winter-preparation maintenance tasks undone once it does.

It really doesn’t take long to come up with around-the-house work to do before winter:

  • Clean gutters and downspouts
  • Seal gaps and cracks in windows and doors
  • Repair damaged or corroded roof shingles and flashing
  • Drain outdoor faucets, hoses, and irrigation systems
  • Inspect heating systems and furnaces, cleaning and replacing filters when necessary
  • Have all gas equipment inspected
  • Test all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

And of course, this list could go on and on. The truth is that any of the aforementioned residential maintenance projects also apply to agricultural and commercial properties as well, albeit usually with a lot more time and effort involved. Grain bins, seed systems, storage sheds, post-frame buildings, and more, all need the same kind of attention and work to ensure they not only last the winter months, but are ready for use come spring as well. We all know winter is hard on buildings, and even small things like trapped water or gaps along windows can wreak havoc if not tended to.

If you are in need of some help getting your grain storage or transfer equipment, buildings, seed systems, or more ready for the months to come, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

Metal Building renovation

Breathing New Life Into an Old FS Building: Part 1

While there is always something fun about building a brand-new structure from the ground up, there is something equally satisfying about taking an old structure and making it feel new again. Sometimes this is in the preservation of something historic, and other times, it’s simply a matter of efficiency and cost. This is the first of two articles covering the extensive updates done to an old FS structure this past February as it transformed from something that looked the part of having weathered the test of time and seasons to something that looks like it could have been built yesterday.

New Garage Doors and Metal Roof Make a Big Impact

The biggest and perhaps most obvious fix came in the form of the large, 24 x 16’ polymer doors that took up most of the front of the building. To be expected, these had yellowed and worn over the years, so our team replaced them with a new, double-sliding, metal door system. These new doors, matched to the original color of the structure, now provide a sharp, new focal point to the building. In addition to these doors, we also replaced another old, double sliding door with a 12 x 10’ Raynor Showcase steel-backed, insulated door and a Raynor Pilot ½ hp chain drive operator.

The second major fix came in the form of a new 22 x 22’ roof over the office area of the structure. This GR3 Fabral white, metal roof will last up to 60 years and provides a clean, new look for the top of the building.

Even with these additions, the building still wasn’t finished. However, with brand-new garage doors and a metal roof, it’s well on its way. If your building could use new doors or an updated roof, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction services metal roof

Project Profile: Metal Roof Does What Traditional Roof Couldn’t

At FS Construction Services, we’re no strangers to the benefits of metal roofs. And while we fully understand that the upfront cost of a metal roof may seem like a big pill to swallow, the long-term benefits are many and, we emphasize, looooong term.

This has perhaps been no more apparent than with a recent client project we worked with earlier in the year, who had a barn with a roof in need of replacing. The price of traditional shingles makes them a hard temptation to pass on, we get that, and they have worked well for many people for a long time now. Unfortunately for our client, the traditional shingles they had a contractor install just weren’t up to the task, and they began leaking shortly thereafter. Rather than double down on traditional roofing shingles, they contacted FS Construction Services to put a stop to her leaky roof.

Using lifts because of the steep-pitched roof, Tom Marcheski and his team installed a 26-gauge steel Fabral Horizon S Series roof on the structure. This 40’ x 48’ x 18’ standing seam roof features a Class A fire resistance rating, a Class 4 hail impact resistance, a Class 90 uplift test rating, and, maybe most importantly, thanks to a factory-applied sealant and proper installation, a Leak Free rating. Additionally, this roof, with its standing shadow lines and attractive color options, looks really good on its new home. And, thanks to the durability and rot resistance of metal roofs, it will continue to look good for upwards of 60-70 years.

If you’re in need of an attractive, long-lasting, and weatherproof roof, whether for a residential, commercial, or agricultural building, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

Fabral buildings Gateway FS Construction Services

Project Profile: Preserving History on the Mississippi

Every once in a while, a project comes along that is so exciting and interesting, just getting to work on it feels like a privilege. At FS Construction Services we have occasionally had the pleasure of getting the chance to restore or preserve some history, which is always fun, because those projects carry a little extra meaning. This past year, we had the opportunity to work on a building going on 90 years old, and bring something from the brink of disrepair into something useful and beautiful.

Back in 1930, this barn was built by hand in St. Genevieve, MO, just west of the Mississippi River.

As of April 2018, the structure was still standing, but it was in need of some serious repairs. Rather than demolish the building and start again, our client allowed us to come and perform a complete update, re-covering the entire barn with Fabral’s Grandrib 3 Plus panels. These galvanized-steel panels bring some serious durability with Class A fire resistance, Class 4 impact resistance, and Class 90 uplift rating, in addition to heavy-duty snow load ratings. The total installation covered two buildings, one at 46’ x 18’ x 13’6” and the other at 17’ x 46’ x 8’.

By installing these thicker, metal panels, we have not only been able to preserve this history for the present, but for the future as well. Tom Marcheski and his team had plenty of time to think this over as they rode the ferry over to the jobsite every day. St. Genevieve has the distinction of being the oldest permanent European settlement in Missouri, and now, thanks to a willing client and our expert team, the hog barn remains a standing part of that history.

Whether you are in need of updating an old structure or building an entirely new one, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

Gateway FS Construction Services Fabral residental roof

Project Profile: A new 4500 Sq. Ft. Metal Roof

At FS Construction Services, we feel like we’re always singing the praises of metal roofs, but for good reason. Metal roofs provide a long-lasting solution to roofing needs, with a longevity, durability, and elegance not found in other roofing solutions. However, making a happy client takes more than just the raw materials, no matter how beneficial those materials can be.

Such was the case, when we had the opportunity to install a brand-new roof for some clients in our hometown. The 4500 sq. ft. project not only included installation, but also removing the original shingles on the home and shed. Our Building and Construction lead, Tom Marcheski, and his team got to work quickly clearing the way for the attractive, forest green Fabral Stand ‘N Seam panels. These stainless-steel panels boast the highest wind uplift resistance of any standing seam panel, as well as a Class 4 impact rating and a Class A fire rating, meaning they will provide decades of unrivaled protection and cover.

As integral as a roof is to any building, they are often easy to overlook until it’s too late. That’s why we’ve partnered with Fabral and their state-of-the-art metal roofs. These roofs don’t rot or erode like standard shingles, and they can last up to 70 years.

Whether it’s a smaller residential project or a large commercial project, our team can outfit your structure with the kind of roof that brings considerable peace of mind. In addition to roofing, our team can also take on siding and painting projects, for agricultural, residential, or commercial needs. If you are in need of a new or updated roof, let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.
