Gateway FS Construction Services metal roofing

Project Profile: Roofing Steel

At FS Construction Services, we understand that a building is only as strong as its weakest part. Thick, steel walls may stand strong for decades, but the building won’t be very comfortable if it has a thatched roof covered in holes. That’s why we have enjoyed our partnership with Fabral so much. Their metal roofs are designed to look good and hold up far longer than traditional roof shingles.

Discover the Durability and Stability of Metal Roofs

In mid-August, Tom Marcheski and his crew traveled over to Sparta, IL to take on a 6,000 sq. ft. roofing project. Using Fabral’s 1 ½” SSR metal roofing system, they covered the building in the 24-gauge steel floating standing seam roof. This roof features a Class A fire resistance rating, a Class 4 hail impact rating, and a Class 90 Uplift test rating. In addition to its ability to stand up to impact, it also has a fastening system that allows for thermal movement and a factory-applied sealant to provide a tight, secure roof that doesn’t draft or leak. In addition to the built-in features of these particular roof panels, our team also installed a snow retention system. These snow and ice guards not only protect the roof itself, but more importantly, anyone who may be entering the building below. While our client chose black-colored panels, Fabral’s roofs come in a variety of colors, so you can always match your specific building.

In our opinion, the durability and security you get with a metal roof makes the investment worthwhile. Their strength and longevity are unmatched, and with a number of styles and colors available, you can always find the most attractive option for you.

If you are in need of a new roof and would like to consider going metal, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services finding gratitude

Finding Gratitude in a Turbulent Year

Despite perhaps one of the most difficult, hectic, and strange years many of us can remember, we have managed to make it here to the end of 2020. And while it would be easy to reflect on just how unusual and confusing this year has been, we wanted to take a moment to slow down and count the things that we have appreciated.

Finding Gratitude for Incredible People

We are beyond grateful for our many wonderful clients and customers who have continued to reach out to us for help and service, despite the uncertainty that each new day has brought. Simply put, there would be no FS Construction Services without the incredible people that we have had the opportunity to work with year after year.

We are thankful for the family and friends that we have had around us when it has mattered most. We have always loved getting to serve our community and that will never change, even in tough times.

And we appreciate, more than we can say, the enduring spirit of the hardworking people that we see every day. Despite the unpredictable series of complications and troubles we have known this year, seeds were still planted, crops were still harvested, buildings were still built, and one way or another, people found a way to keep going.

We hope that wherever this moment may find you, that you will also be able to take some time to reflect on the simple pleasures and the small blessings that have carried us all through.

Who knows what the next day will bring, let alone the next year, and we don’t take it for granted that tomorrow is guaranteed. But we have also seen hope and joy in the endurance and stamina of those around us. And that is absolutely something to celebrate. So, wherever you are this holiday season, we wish you happiness and peace and the strength to keep moving forward.

As always, we are here for any of your building, grain system, seed system, roofing, garage door, and painting needs. If you have any questions at all, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. Finding Courage in a Year Like No Other

There is no denying that this has been a year like no other. As the months have passed on, it has been hard for many not to feel worn down, tired, and even hopeless. And yet, no matter how bleak things may feel, or how dark the outlook may seem, we are not without hope. All around us are stories of men and women who refused to give up, who kept on fighting, and had courage even when no one else did.

Remember Those Who Served This Veteran’s Day

Some of these stories we may know and some of them we never will. This November 11, as we reflect on the sacrifice and bravery of the men and women who have served our country, we hope that you will also take courage in their courage. Even in the midst of uncertainty and doubt, time and time again, people have shown their ability to rise above and keep on going. Whether it was overseas or right here at home, our veterans have proven that it is possible to be resilient and to persevere, no matter the adversity. So if you are spending Veteran’s Day with family and friends, or if you are spending it alone, we hope that you can find some comfort and solace, even in a difficult time.

And to those of you who have served, we would like to say thank you, not just for your service, but for the example you have provided for the rest of us.

FS Construction Services farm safety power lines

5 Tips for Staying Safe Around Power Lines this Harvest

While this year has certainly been a year unlike any other, the realities of the ebb and flow of time haven’t changed a bit. After spring came summer, after summer came fall, and harvest, as it always does, has arrived. While many of us have had to take a number of extra precautions in our everyday lives this year, the high level of caution needed during harvest has remained the same. And while there are many safety tips and practices to bear in mind, we here at FS Construction Services wanted to take a little time to talk specifically about staying safe around power lines.

Stay Safe this Fall Around Power Lines

There’s no way around it, as a farmer, at some point in time you’ll be working around electrical equipment. Often, you’ll be working around electrical equipment in large, tall machines. We have compiled some information from Safe Electricity to have on hand as a reminder this year.

  1. Know when you’ll be working areas near power lines. Have a plan to keep everyone safe.
  2. Use a spotter to help keep you at least 10 ft. away from power lines in all directions.
  3. Be careful when raising augers. Use a spotter if necessary. When not in use, lower equipment extensions as low as they can go.
  4. This may be obvious, but never attempt to move a power line, even if it’s in your way.
  5. If any equipment you are on comes in contact with a power line, don’t leave the equipment. Call professionals to come and safely de-energize the line. If the equipment is on fire, jump as far away from the line as you can, with both feet together, to keep a current from flowing through your body.

There is, of course, much more that could be said, but hopefully none of this information is new to you and is simply a reminder. We wish you a safe and successful harvest this year. If you have any questions about grain systems, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.

FS Construction Services metal roofing

A Metal Roof is the Best Kind of Weather Preparation

While it may only be September, and this year may have felt like one of the longest years many of us have ever lived through, winter will be here again, and probably well before we feel like it should be. Colder months approaching means all of the usual precautions and preparations will be needed, and the sooner those are taken care of, the fewer problems you have to think or worry about.

In particular, if you’re approaching the time for a new roof, it is most likely in your best interest to act sooner rather than later. And here at FS Construction Services, we’re big fans of metal roofs. Our partners at Fabral make some of the strongest, longest lasting roofs around. First and foremost, metal roofing doesn’t crack, shrink, or erode like traditional roof shingles do. Additionally, it’s designed to stand up to extreme weather conditions including high wind, snow, ice, and hail. On top of all of that, metal roofs can last decades longer than traditional roofs, meaning once you get one installed, you really don’t have to think about it again for a long, long time.

However, one thing many people might not think about when it comes to the benefits of metal roofs is their thermal efficiency. On top of the tight seals that can be achieved with a metal roof, there are a number of insulation options that further increase the roof’s ability to keep cold out and hold heat in.

FS Construction Services thank you veterans

Remembering our Nation’s Brave Veterans

As we enter this time of year, it seems like there are no shortage of opportunities to pause, reflect, and be grateful for the things that we have. From New Years to Christmas to Thanksgiving, the roller coaster of holidays and festivities can seem endless. The busyness of this time of year can also make it feel impossible to do the thing we’re constantly told we should be doing: slowing down, taking stock, and finding gratefulness, including for our veterans.

Monday, November 11, presents another one of those opportunities, albeit on a day when most businesses will still be open and most people working. Though there may not be presents or parties, Veteran’s Day is no less important a day to commemorate.

At FS Construction Services, we know how busy a day can get and how fast a day can go. We know how easy it is to blink and suddenly it’s 10pm and you have no idea where the time went. But this November 11 we ask that you join us and make the time to remember. Find a few minutes to consider the cost that the men and women who have served our country have paid, the nights they’ve spent away from their families, and the danger they have put themselves in. How our nation’s veterans have willingly set aside their freedoms and safety to protect our homes and our families.

So to all the veterans far and wide: thank you. Your sacrifice is a remarkable thing and it will not be easily forgotten or overlooked.

Metal Building renovation

Breathing New Life Into an Old FS Building: Part 2

This is the second of two articles covering the extensive updates done to an old FS structure this past February as it transformed into something that looks like it could have been built yesterday. While it is always fun to build a brand-new structure from the ground up, sometimes it is equally satisfying to take an old structure and make it feel new again. Sometimes this is the renovation or preservation of something historic, and other times, it’s simply a matter of efficiency and cost, as it was with this great older building.

New Ceiling and Metal Walls Transform This Building

In the quest to ensure this old FS building would continue to serve its purpose, we added new sliding doors and a new roof over the smaller, office portion of the structure. After these first two changes were complete, our team went about a couple more major renovations. The first was the installation of a new ceiling in the 32 x 54’ shop area of the building. This new ceiling was filled with blown-in insulation to significantly increase the structure’s thermal efficiency.

With doors, roof, and ceiling all updated, there was one major update still left to tackle. The original building featured large polymer panels, effectively turning the building into a type of greenhouse. Similar to the doors, we replaced those polymer panels with red metal walls to match the rest of the structure and create a more unified look.

Relying on the solid bones of the original building, our team was able to make some key updates to ensure our client will have many, many more comfortable, functional years with this structure. If you are looking for steel or wood building work, whether it’s new construction or updating existing buildings, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. FS Construction Services fall maintenance

Preventing Winter Emergencies with Fall Maintenance

With the days already getting shorter and (occasionally) cooler, as sudden as ever, summer is has ended and fall has begun. And while there’s always the hope of a couple of calm, temperate autumn months, winter usually shows up sooner than anyone wants. It’s all too easy to overestimate the amount of time you have left until the real cold starts and all too common to leave winter-preparation maintenance tasks undone once it does.

It really doesn’t take long to come up with around-the-house work to do before winter:

  • Clean gutters and downspouts
  • Seal gaps and cracks in windows and doors
  • Repair damaged or corroded roof shingles and flashing
  • Drain outdoor faucets, hoses, and irrigation systems
  • Inspect heating systems and furnaces, cleaning and replacing filters when necessary
  • Have all gas equipment inspected
  • Test all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

And of course, this list could go on and on. The truth is that any of the aforementioned residential maintenance projects also apply to agricultural and commercial properties as well, albeit usually with a lot more time and effort involved. Grain bins, seed systems, storage sheds, post-frame buildings, and more, all need the same kind of attention and work to ensure they not only last the winter months, but are ready for use come spring as well. We all know winter is hard on buildings, and even small things like trapped water or gaps along windows can wreak havoc if not tended to.

If you are in need of some help getting your grain storage or transfer equipment, buildings, seed systems, or more ready for the months to come, please let Gateway FS Construction Services know. Give us a call at 866-551-3454, and let our specialists help you find exactly what you are looking for. We look forward to providing you the best customer service experience.
